Fear Not! God has Your Back!

Updated on March 11, 2011

Fear Not! God has Your Back!

By Dexter Yarbrough. This is a topic, undoubtedly, that many have had to face. While facing many of life's adversities, fear is that unseen force that can paralyze. I speak (write) from experience. When fear comes into a person's life, that fear will limit them. Fear always controls and limits a person, eventually causing them to be ineffective in who they could be and restricting their potential in life.

"There is nothing that wastes the body like worry, and one who has any faith in God should be ashamed to worry about anything.” Mahatma Gandhi

In essence, fear shuts you down. It limits your capacity, limits the potential of your relationships and neutralizes the gift God has given to you. Fear will also bring with it anxiety and worry, which in turn drains your energy. It opens the door to sickness; it impairs, distorts and kills vision. Fear can bring confusion; it causes cowardly behavior and stops a person from fulfilling their destiny. Sound familiar? Just know that God has your back!

Freedom from fear

Our Heavenly Father wants us to live free from fear. In my own life, I was crippled by fear of career failure, other people and of rejection. There are people who are afraid of themselves. They are afraid that they won't be able to do something. They are afraid that they can't trust their own actions and responses in a relationship. Many folks are afraid of the future or afraid of the past. Some have fear of good things coming to an end. A lot of us have a fear of death.

"Do not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God and the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

All of us have a choice to make in terms of whether or not we allow fear to control us. The above passage says do not be anxious about anything. You can choose not to be anxious but to present your request to God. If you give it over to The Most High, His peace will come in and guard your heart.

Renew your mind; face the fear

Fear starts as a thought of anxiety; you think "well if this happens, then this may happen" or "if they say that then this could happen" or "if I go there then this could happen." If left unchecked, these thoughts continue to grow in our hearts and eventually form strongholds through which the enemy of the mind can have major control in our lives.

"Worry often gives a small thing a big shadow."

The spirit of fear can be broken off your life by the renewing of your mind. Change your thought patterns by the grace and the power of Almighty God, and you will see those thought patterns, also known as strongholds, pulled down and the power of fear broken off your life. Fear sets itself up against the knowledge of God. We have to choose to say, "I will not be afraid today," and "I choose not to be afraid of this situation."

There has to be a change of thought and a change of thinking. Don't just try and remove the thoughts of fear; you need to put a new thought in. Take a scripture and say this is what I will meditate on and allow that to become the new stronghold in your life. May Almighty God continue to bless you and increase your faith...and remove your fear. He has your back!

"The key to change...is to let go of fear." Rosanne Cash
